Miles Dotson graduated from University of Miami in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He currently lives in Oakland, CA and is the founder and managing partner of a startup studio and early stage investment fund.
Learning about Steve’s mother and how she pushed him to succeed inspired Miles to apply for the SFF Scholarship. Looking up to Steve as a child growing up, Miles used his story as inspiration to follow his dream of attending college. When Miles decided he wanted to attend college in Florida, he learned about the scholarship from his mentors at the Boys and Girls Club. The scholarship reduced the burden for his family as he prepared to leave Houston to study in Miami. “The scholarship funds saved me from some trying times in my University experience.”
Miles is grateful to The Steve Francis Foundation for its constant outreach and the community of scholars who helped reinforce his self-confidence; this support pushed the limits of what he thought he could achieve and he was determined to make everyone who was a part of his support system in Houston proud.
Miles in now the father of two wonderful little girls, Marli and Meadow. He is also married to “the very talented and brilliant Swan Spikes Dotson of Houston, Texas.” His family keeps him motivated in life. As a leader wanting to give back to the community, Miles has been dedicated to making Juneteenth a National Holiday. Read more about these efforts below:
