Brenda Wilson Scholar

Joshua Collins

Joshua finished his spring semester with 3A’s and 2B’s and then completed his final class this summer. He worked hard to complete his degree while he was working overnight-stocking at Wal-Mart. He did not have much time to himself and to participate in any new activities but if he could have traveled anywhere, it would have been Paris, France.

The Steve Francis Foundation awarded Joshua his scholarship in the spring of 2011 with some additional funds that were available. Joshua showed perseverance and leadership that convinced us he was the perfect candidate. In high school, he would mow his elderly neighbor’s lawns out of the kindness of his heart and wanted to be a role model for the younger youth in the neighborhood. In Joshua’s application essay, he wrote “This has the most meaning, as I am showing and teaching the younger youth to take care of and look out for others, especially our senior citizens.”

Joshua was also a volunteer and member of the Johnny Mitchell Boys and Girls Club for 10 years. He found the club to be a safe haven and field of opportunity. Joshua was involved with many programs of the club and volunteered as a mentor and tutor for elementary school students.

We are so happy to add another scholarship recipient to our graduate list and watch Joshua thrive in his community and career.

Thank you for being my LIFESAVER, my support. The money you have applied toward my education has gone a long way. Thank you again and again. -Joshua
