Melissa has maintained a tradition of academic excellence, making the Dean’s List a running total of six out of seven semesters, most recently during the Fall 2011 semester. She has also completed two internships, one at The Monarch School, a school for children with neurological differences, and one at Casa Juan Diego, a Houston shelter for struggling immigrants. She also currently works at 24 Hour Fitness’s Kids Club.
Melissa is inspired by the advice of her mother, who always reminds her not to let anything distract her from her goals. With a deeply invested passion for helping others, Melissa hopes to use her Psychology degree to help others overcome emotional problems, and assist those who are often overlooked by society. After graduation Melissa plans to apply to the Catholic Charities and the Children’s Assessment Center, and continue on to graduate school to earn a Master’s degree
