Greg Jones Jr. graduated from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC and will be attending Marshall University in the Fall to pursue a degree in Business Administration. In High School, Greg was a Varsity Basketball player, Track & Field Athlete, a member of the Black Student Union, and a constant contributor to his community. While being a student-athlete, Greg Jr. participated in KID Power After School Mentorship Program at his high school. He also enjoyed learning and participating in forensic and crime scene simulations.
Greg is inspired and motivated by his parents and all that they have taught him. He learned the importance of hard work and giving back to his community through his parents’ actions. His mother, Patrice Jones, has been a teacher for 20 years. She is constantly giving to others by teaching the younger generation. Greg’s father, Greg Jones Sr., is an accomplished basketball player. By seeing his father pursue his dreams and put in the extra hours of work to be the best he could be, it inspired Greg Jr. to do the same. Greg Jr. aspires to play basketball professionally and idolizes how NBA players such as Steve Francis give back to others.
Greg Jr. claims that one of his favorite things that his parents taught him was the responsibility to give back to his community. Since he was a young boy, Greg has found a way to serve others. He began participating in the usher ministry at his church at age eight. He then was able to use his abilities to become a leader for younger church members through a youth program called GZONE. With GZONE, he was able to acknowledge his mentee’s character traits and strengths to empower them to make positive decisions using biblical principles.
With a great foundation of community service and hard work, Greg Jones Jr. will continue to serve others and make a positive impact on others. He aspires to create a foundation to provide opportunities for the youth to learn, grow, and succeed just as the Steve Francis Foundation has done for him.
