In partnership with Sunnyside Community Center, Steve Francis hosted a basketball camp July 19th-23rd for youth ages 6-13. All youth attended the camp free of charge and enjoyed a week of skill development, teamwork, and competition. One lucky camper was crowned the Knock-Out Champion, even outlasting the entire coaching staff.
Given the size of the gym at the Sunnyside Community Center, the camp was limited to 60 participants, and every spot was taken. The campers enjoyed a special celebration on Friday which included pizza, barbecue, snow cones and cake in addition to personalized certificates of achievement.
The Steve Francis Foundation is committed to educational and recreational programming in the Sunnyside Community and has launched its Sunnyside Up! initiative in support of this mission. Prior programming includes a food distribution in November for Thanksgiving and a toy give-away in December for the holidays. Both events took place at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in partnership with Pastor James Nash.
Francis is especially excited to host many more basketball camps at Sunnyside Community Center after this inaugural one was such a huge success.
